It is the rare adjunct faculty member teaching on one or possibly two traditional college or university campuses that can actually claim to earn a decent living. This may surprise many people, including the college students receiving post-secondary instruction form the adjunct instructors, but the simple truth of the matter is that college and university administrators are simply not willing to pay a living wage to individuals with earned graduate degrees, a master’s degree or doctorate degree, to teach on a physical campus. While there is considerable hue and cry from these economically benighted academics, there is still little realization that the academic labor model has changed permanently and that it is up to the adjunct college instructors to take matters into their own hands and acquire online adjunct instructor positions in multiples if they want to earn a living and continue teaching college students. Fortunately, it is now possible to do both thanks to distance education technology. Over the last decade this technology has made accredited online bachelor degree programs and accredited online master’s degree programs a mainstay on the post-secondary academic landscape. The technically adroit academic that masters the use of a personal computer can compile an online teaching schedule containing as many as eight to ten online college courses. This many online college classes represents as many individual online faculty positions, and as such can generate a healthy amount of online adjunct income.

In these perilous economic times every adjunct professor should become familiar with accredited online college degree programs and the employment opportunities they represent for people with graduate degrees. The for-profit colleges that confer the online bachelor degree and the online master degree have been quite successful over the last few years because they recognized early on that today’s new and returning college students are very comfortable enrolling in and completing online college classes. As a result, there are many online adjunct jobs available with these post-secondary school, and there are online adjunct instructors who also understood the importance of mastering digital navigation that now earn much more from their online adjunct positions than their counterparts still teaching in the physical college classroom.

More to the point, these online college professors are poised to take advantage of the movement from traditional community colleges, state universities and four-year colleges that are just now developing and offering online degree programs to their student populations. In the coming years the vast majority of college classes in practically every academic discipline will be represented by an online college degree program.  This growth in available online college degrees will, of course, greatly increase the numbers of adjunct online faculty positions needing qualified online adjunct instructors to fill them. Of course, it will be necessary for prospective online college professors to develop and put into action a search strategy for locating and applying for these online professor positions with the thousands of programs that give students a chance to earn an online bachelor degree or an online master’s degree.

The most efficient method of acquiring multiple online adjunct professor jobs is to go to the websites of the over five thousand state colleges, four-year universities, technical schools, community college and for-profit colleges and locate the link on the first page of the school’s website that leads to the faculty application section. While not every school will have a suitable online college degree program available at the time of the faculty application, it can be assumed that in time the online degree program that fits the prospective online instructors academic background will appear.  Ultimately, it is the aggressive online adjunct instructor that will eventually gather enough online adjunct instructor positions to actually produce a full time living from college teaching.
